About Flatten PDF
Filled forms are deceptive. The values you typed live in interactive field objects layered above the page, so a different reader may show them differently, print them blank, or let the recipient change them.
Flattening bakes fields, annotations and stamps into the page content itself, producing a document that looks the same everywhere and can no longer be edited through the form interface.

When it helps
- • Locking a completed application form before submitting it.
- • Making sure a printed form shows the values you entered.
- • Freezing comments and highlights into a review copy.
- • Preparing a filled form for archiving where interactivity is unwanted.
Good to know
- • Flattening is one-way. Keep the interactive original if you may need to change the answers.
- • Signature fields become static images of themselves and lose any cryptographic validity.
